Chemical Sciences Division (CSD) is one of the earliest well equipped facility in CESS developed to provide a strong, scientific and competitive research environment. Scientists at CSD are involved in several national and state sponsored programmes for monitoring and providing inputs for assessment and management of coastal ocean and water resources of states of Kerala and Karnataka. The group activities are focused on the development of pollution monitoring and its prevention strategies in connection with freshwater sources, industrial basins and municipal sewage effluents. The division is well equipped with chemical, marine biological, microbiological, computational and instrumental laboratories and undertakes analysis of all chemical, physical and biological parameters of water and wastewaters. Application of chemical science and engineering technology with special reference to environmental chemistry, biology and geology to manage the precious water and geological resources in the state of Kerala is a thrust area of activity. Division wishes to expand and disseminate data and knowledge for the benefit of science and environment with a global perspective.
